Circular Connector Series 03 Compatible with AISG’s Latest 1.1 Release

Schalksmühle, February 17, 2017. Lumberg’s circular connector series 03 is perfectly suited for the latest requirement for multi-pin connectors under the AISG C485 Release 1.1, which was defined in June 2016.

AISG Group’s goal was to create a more uniform and higher global quality standard for mobile radio antennae. The proven connectors from Lumberg’s 03 series already fit this to a T without requiring any modifications. All connectors qualify for an IP68 protection rating and meet the IEC 61076-2-106 standard. In keeping with the new AISG standard, one additional pin configuration was added. Going by the name of 05-3, it is practically a partly-fitted 08-1. The socket of the 05-3 has three vacant bore holes which the AISG standard requires for reasons of downward compatibility, so that connectors with an 08-1 pin configuration can still mate.

The new circular connector even caters to the more stringent requirements for larger cable diameters by holding cables of up to 10 mm. Designed for signal currents and load currents of up to 5 A and a rated voltage of 100 V AC with VG 1, the connector is ideal for use in 4G/5G antenna controls and guarantees a smooth electrical connection between the antenna base station and RET (remote electric tilt) elements. But even bias tees, TMAs (tower mounted amplifiers) or surge arresters are typical fields of application in which Lumberg circular connectors boast a proven track record for mobile network infrastructures as well as many other industries.

With its radically simplified mounting of the 360° shielded screw-type circular connector, Lumberg responds to assembly requirements in the field as well as manufacturers targeting high volumes for pre-assembly. A highly innovative shield connection principle on the inside of the housing makes it possible to compose the entire connector from a much smaller number of individual parts, which in turn facilitates a much faster mounting process, even when soldering or crimping the cable to the connector’s components. The highly time-consuming and elaborate process steps of stripping, expanding, shortening and applying a shielding braid as is common for comparable connectors, becomes completely redundant here. Not only is the mounting process completed much more quickly, but quality is improved considerably since common mounting errors at the intersection, shielding and cable which impact the connection’s leak-tightness, are eliminated. As a result, manufacturing – compared to conventional circular connectors – can be completed in half of the time currently required. In addition to resistance to salt, dust and UV rays a patented special vibration protector is fitted into the housing which acts as an added security feature by preventing the screwed connection from becoming loose.
